Whoa Nellie

At the base of the Tioga Pass a few hundred yards from Highway 395, and just down the road from Lee Vining is a very improbable gourmet restaurant.  I say improbable,  because it is located in the Tioga Gas and Gift Mart,  and it has fantastic food.  San Diego Native Matt Toomey has created this culinary oddity,  and it lives up to it’s reputation

I sat outside on the patio, listened to live music, and had a great bowl of Jambalaya,  and a bowl of really fine mushroom soup,  while my wife enjoyed a veggie burger with huge slices of marinated veggies.

The atmosphere was fun,  and there were a lot of folks having a good time.   If you happen to be near Lee Vining and in the mood for a little gourmet food, and a fill-up;  Stop by.
