Fly Fishing

December 1st, 2008 · No Comments

While one of my favorite activities in the world is to pick up a rod and reel,  and fish,  I have only dabbled in the art fly fishing.  The glitzy allure and more immediate gratification of a rod and reel have always kept fly fishing in the background.  Lately I have had an itch to challenge myself on the water in new ways,  and I think that learning to fly fish may just scratch that itch.

The San Diego Union Tribune featured a story about a free clinic each Sunday, sponsored and taught by the members of the San Diego Fly Fishers.   This free class for beginners looks as like the perfect opportunity to get a taste,  and a head start on the skills needed before dropping a bunch of cash on gear.  They provide loaner rigs and instruction.  Look for me soon on the shores of Lake Murray.

On a related note,  check out Tom Chandler’s  great blog on flyfishing called The Trout Underground.
