There is another entry into the Gore-Tex vs. eVent Challenge. This comes in the form of the Cloudveil Shadow Peak Jacket. This jacket is the burliest of all the contenders. Stitched out of Gore-Tex Performance Three Layer Fabric, the Shadow Peak is at home on the ski slopes as it is in the backcountry. The jacket is loaded with features, such as a Tricot lined collar, and a integrated powder skirt. Settling into the shadow peak jacket is akin to sliding into the leather seats of a Cadillac, a smooth comfortable ride with everything you need for a day braving the elements.
The Shadow peak is by far the burliest jacket in the test. This durability translates to ounces on the scale as the jacket weighs in at 30 oz. While this is heavier than the other breathable shells, the extra ounces are a small price to pay for performance. This remains to be seen until this jacket and the others see a winters worth of harsh conditions, some miles, and a few gallons of sweat evaporating through the breathable barriers and mechanical ventilation. The jury is still out, and it remains to be seen who will prevail in the Outside San Diego Gore-Tex vs. eVent Challenge; so stay tuned!
