I have been using the Sierra Designs Arrow Rock 30 sleeping bag as my primary means of insulation throughout the the fall and winter.  The bag has seen heavy use in moderate to cold weather, and has performed well,  for the most part keeping me comfortable in temperatures in the low 40’s.  While the bag is rated for 30F, I personally was beginning to get chilled when the temperatures dropped below 40.   Comfort in a sleeping bag is relative, and dependent on a number of factors.  I have no doubt that the majority of people would be comfortable in this bag when the temperature drops to 30F, but it is important to know how you sleep, and be conservative in a bags temperature rating until you know how comfortably you sleep.

The highlight of this sleeping bag is it’s comfort.  The “Flex Technology” that Sierra Designs incorporates into the bag really works.  I was a bit skeptical as to how the stretch baffles would aid in keeping me comfortable when the bag arrived.  I soon became a convert after tossing and turning in the bag for a couple of nights, and waking up without the bag twisted around my body as is often the case with other bags. While the same level of comfort could be achieved using a bag with larger dimensions, the “Flex Technology” keep the bag close to my body, avoiding the problem of cold air rushing into the bag when moving.

Just as all bags with stash pockets, I find them unnecessary, as I have yet to figure out what to put in them. The sleeping pad straps are also a feature I could live without.  I have tried to use them, but when I tighten them down too much, the restrict the volume of the bag, and when they are loose, I do not see much benefit. The material the bag is covered in is soft and comfortable,  and has proven to be plenty durable during testing.  The bag has been through numerous trips, and a washing, and still appears as new.  The bag packs down to a reasonable size, and  600 fill power down lofts quickly when unpacked.

The Arrow Rock 30 represents a great value, as it is available as low as $180 at REI.com.   The performance this bag has provided is similar to bags that I have used that cost much more.  The “Flex Technology” that Sierra Designs incorporated into the Arrow Rock 30 makes this one of the most comfortable bags I have used in a long. time.
